The aim of our annual environmental series is to bust through preconceptions of ruin and passivity and to share with audiences some of the most scintillating and galvanizing art being made these days.

Coming soon: Conversations with El Horto

László Hortobāgyi, a self described time traveler, is one of my favourite musicians. Away from rock and world music etiquettes which he despises, he goes beyond the realms of conventional music. He is a connoisseur of music, a collector of bizarre sounds. An auditive inventor of landscapes of imaginary ancient cultures. He is the equivalent in music of HP Lovecraft in literature, Bosch (El Bosco) in painting or HR Gigger in visual arts. Maybe a combination of Jodorowski and the Quay brothers in cinema with a touch of sci fi. He absorbs the millenarian knowledge of the old civilizations to extrapolate it to modern technology.

Exclusive interview with Berlin based band Bonaparte

What genre of music do you consider your work to be?
Difficult to say as I tend to draw from everything I hear around me and everything I make up in my head, I try to steal all the best things I find and mix them up into something new. Terms I have read when people wrote about my music are “attention deficit disorder music” other “electro-trash-punk”. You can say there is an energy from punk, a song form from pop, a beat from swing, a rhythm from techno, a craziness from novelty, a freedom from jazz and the fun of folk music. You can say many things but I’d rather see you dance now.

King Midas Sound at The Sound Control in Manchester

By Sylwia Osiecka. With the days growing longer and hotter, summer creeps up on Manchester and with this the great city festivals begin. May always springs with good stuff and this year one of the most vibrant flowers so far has been The FutureEverything Festival.
As Robinson says “It’s about how to be connected for your own wellbeing, [...] it’s not to preach. In a weird way it’s about being green and ecologically aware before that was on the world agenda.”. Well then boys and girls it’s a lesson to come.

Fuck Buttons @ The Biltmore Cabaret

Fuck Buttons @ The Biltmore Cabaret
By Dean Belder
The Biltmore Cabaret is one of my favorite venues in Vancouver, in part due to the three block walk from my house, and tonight I was thankful for that. Sporting a slight limp we made our way the club to see the Fuck Buttons (with Guest).
I never did find out who “with Guest” actually was, and to be honest I’m not too interested to find out. While he proved himself good at mashing stuff up, he simply provided a tease, a …
