Tito Deville Band

It would be easy to misjudge Vancouver’s Tito Deville Band. For someone going solely on their sound and their image, one may think the band is steeped in glamour 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and drenched in spotlights while drinking champagne in the back of limousines between sold-out gigs. But strip away the glitz and sit down with the quartet in their humble East Vancouver rehearsal space, and one quickly begins to see that behind it all, they’re like any other hard-working musicians making a go at the art they’ve put their hearts and souls into for the last 24 months, if not most of their young lives.

DissiKuss

I am who I am. No regrets, no apologies. IT IS WHAT IT IS. I make rap music. I am not American. I am from Surrey, British Columbia, born and raised and proud of coming from a place where adversity finds you at a young age. You can either make it, or become one of the weak. I knew how to rap at an early age. My brother introduced me to NWA and PUBLIC ENEMY when I was in grade 4. After that, a natural progression to Westcoast rap like 2PAC, SNOOP and THA DOGG POUND, with some heavy Eastcoast lyrical influence such as WU TANG, NAS, JAY-Z made me want to rap. I remember rapping over beats like Nas’ “Street Dreams” and “The Message” when I was 15 years old.

Shottas

BOOM! Dropping from space sometime in the 21st century, Shottas – KAi & Atlin – an unsigned duo of vocalists residing in Vancouver, B.C. have been known to constantly push boundaries on their journey to reach uncharted musical territory.

Dubbed RappaRockaReggae, these young MC’s have created their own unique sound, fusing Rock, Reggae and Hip Hop into one creation, as well as utilizing live instruments, to effectively display their prolific lyricism and musical creativity. KAi Williams

With no lack of creative substance KAi is a breath of fresh air in the now stagnant world of Hip Hop. KAi’s music is driven by a unique vocal style that seems to change with each new record and an attention to lyricism not often found in the ringtone era. Blessed with the talent to rock the mic and the balls to rock the crowd, KAi is as much an entertainer as he is a musician. Hungry for success this eclectic rapper is on the grind in 09. With his debut solo mixtape “ADayInTheLife – The Biopic” already released and sold out, this young artist is busy in the studio recording multiple projects including: “I Am The V” from RappaRockaReggae duo The Shottas (KAi and brother Atlin)

THE SCALE-BREAKERS AKA: Subway & Guy Woods

When you step on a scale, what do you see?…A number higher than the one you had in your mind?…Well that’s not the case for Stephen “Subway” McGruther and Guy Woods, when these 2 hip-hop heavyweights jump on, the scale reads “to the top”, a destination at which these hungry artists, no pun intended, are sure to arrive. Since early 2006, when the chance came to finally link up in Victoria B.C. instead of cyberspace, the towering two-some have taken Canada by storm. This has culminated into their first major single video “Free” being played in rotation on MuchMusic’s RapCity, Canada’s most revered Hip-Hop outpost, along with the MuchVibe program, as well as the channel. Between Subway’s soaring vocal range and Guy Woods’ molasses-smooth delivery, the two larger-than -life emcees have come together to bring a whole new look to the game, being dubbed the new jazz in the process.

Funk Vigilante

Funk V is a brand new 5-piece funk-metal band from Victoria, British Columbia. We’ve got the funky beats, the heavy guitars, and hip-hop influenced vocals. We play songs about peace and freedom because goddammit it just feels so good.

“The seven songs on Funk Vigilante’s first record, Civil Disobedience, are all winners. From the opening cackle of air raid sirens in the title track to the electronic beat down of “Riot Police,” there isn’t a dull second of music.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Your House…
Your House was formed in 2006 as an amalgamation of two bands, one with reggae tones and the other a mix of hip-hop and rock. Each member possessed a different musical talent and influence from a particular genre. After much experimentation, this new group eventually found their sound in a unique middle ground, blending all of their individual niches to produce a dynamic and intriguing mix.

Mickey D

At 16 he was battling at house parties and in bars. A year later he released his first mixtape “Vol.I – Untouchables” and went on to release the well-reviewed and successful “Vol. II – Blood In Blood Out” at age 18. Went on to drop the mixtape “Dieslow Records – Vol.I” which had a wealth of local talent underneath the Dieslow banner showcasing various genres including death metal, singer-songwriters, and screamo as well as our good friend Hip Hop.
