Clockmakers

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Clockmakers take the melodic pop of Canadian bands such as The Stills and Tokyo Police Club, add the toe-tapping dance floor appeal of synth-heavy artists like Passion Pit and Julian Casablancas, and stir in the ambience of European groups such as Radiohead and Mew.

As was noted by one reviewer at music website Ronatron.net, Clockmakers “have the potential to be the next indie-darlings of the Vancouver music scene.”

The band released their self-titled debut EP in June 2010. From the spirited rush of “On The Lake” to the moody atmospherics of “A Portrait of Ourselves as Ghosts”, the disc finds Clockmakers toying with elements of indie pop, shoegaze, and more, topping it off with reverb-laden vocals reminiscent of indie favorites Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear.

Arcade Fire

umbers seem to confirm that Arcade Fire is the most popular Canadian INDIE band in the world, the most popular Canadian “artist” would probably be Celine Dion but we will not go into that swampy territory. Arcade Fire have been filling stadiums and playing all kind of festivals around the world. The band is based in Montreal, Quebec and was formed by a couple, Win Butler and Regine Chassagne who are now husband and wife. Diamond Rings

Although he learned piano, guitar, and saxophone at a young age, John O (as his friends call him) was more into playing dress-up with his cousin Lisa while dreaming of a life beyond the Toronto suburbs where he was born. Of course, being the only kid on the block that wanted to pair a ballerina tutu from the tickle trunk with hockey gloves didn’t always make things easy. As he explains, “when I was in high school I never really identified with that macho jock attitude but because I played on the basketball team I couldn’t hang with the goths and punks either. Let’s just say I spent alot of time alone trying to figure myself out.”

Glo

Montreal-based modern rock trio Glo
Since our earliest days, humans have desperately struggled to prove themselves as refined, proper and advanced. Yet not one of us can deny that carnal knowledge—one of our most basic instincts—is that which truly compels us. Regardless of money, etiquette or power, it defines us; keeps us as animals writhing in the darkness, absorbing one another’s energy, sensations and passion. We long for primal essence and the liberating purge of succumbing to pleasures of the flesh.
Such is the modus behind Montreal-based modern …

The Ruffled Feathers

It began with the young mandolin playing existentialist Charley Wu singing anthems with a loop pedal in the Gallery Lounge at the University of British Columbia. There he stumbled upon the soft-spoken sparrow Gina Loes. in October of 2008. He invited her travel through the woods with him to sing songs at the piano in his birdhouse. Together they made beautiful music and stretched their wings so wide that in January of 2009 they spotted the gilded melodies of trumpeter Andrew Lee sparkling through the skyscrapers and trees. With a few gathered sticks and battered bows their housemates Alex Leckie and Brian Lerher emerged from their nests on drums and bass and stitched together the heavenly and earthly sounds for the many tuneful evenings that would lay ahead.

Painted Cities

Hailing from the suburbs of Vancouver, BC – Matt, Katie, Sol and John have shared the same unabated passion for music since coming together in early 2006. Reminiscent of that classic 90′s sound, Painted Cities’ songs bear an uncommon feel and energy while retaining a consistency through memorable and dynamic song structures. The foursome recorded their debut EP ‘First Coat’ over the summer of 2007 with good friend and recording artist Tom Prilesky (Wind Whistles, Definition). With the release of the band’s first full-length album this summer, Painted Cities are taking their act on the road and are finding themselves a rising bright light on the horizon well beyond 2010.
