Shambhala: The heartbeat of the forest

We were wet, we danced and jumped, we explored, we climbed a mountain and crossed a river, we traveled on shrooms with Mary Jane, we camped and made new friends and met old ones. Oh yeah, there was music too…

Flying by bus across Europe: Manchester-Amsterdam-Budapest-Szeged

It is noon and I am drinking beer in a market in Manchester. I am also eating chilli con carne at Enrique´s Burrito stand, which is a bad idea because I will probably be farting all the journey. My bus leaves in a couple of hours, 21 hours to Amsterdam. I have a joint and my luggage and I am ready to rock and roll.

The Indiaan: Interview with Ineke Houtman

Among the victims of this predatory capitalism system and its displacements are the children. Mostly defenseless kids that are left aside because of poverty, disease or that become orphans due to the wars and the colonization of the so called third world. Many of these kids end up as soldiers, some are handicapped or orphaned, many of them die. The lucky ones are the ones that get to keep their life and escape unharmed. Few of these kids get adopted in the industrialized nations and are brought up as Europeans or as North Americans. The Indiaan is the story of one of these kids

Eyjafjallajokull

Eyjafjallajokull!

Can you say Eyjafjallajokull? You better because now it has become part of history. The Icelandic volcano grounded thousands of airplanes and shut down airports across Europe. But I survived the volcanic eruption, eventhough I was in Manchester. One of the world´s capital of music, better known as Madchester, the cradle of sounds like Joy Division, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses, Oasis, among others. The volcano spat ash and glass harmful for the planes, it can get inside and kill the engine plummeting the passangers to a certain death. …

Fate of the Mascots

Fate of the mascots.

What happened to the mascots of an important sporting event that took place in Vancouver during the month of February?
Sumi, the orca, went  to New Foundland for a holiday to spend some of its well deserved, hard earned money only to be blunderoged by a hunter that took him for a seal. Shame!
Quatchi, the sasquatch ended up in the Downtown Eastside shooting heroin after a date gone bad. He now lives in the streets and sleeps under a bridge close to Crab park. Pity!
The bear with wings …

FUSE party at the Vancouver Art Gallery

Other “attractions” of the night included: Get to know your neighbour by sending postcards to a stranger, free gifts by Natalie Puschwitz, performances by Hello, Blue Roses, and Kick Everything. Although these bands were not my cup of tea,Carol Sawyer and Ion Zoo definitely were. Kick Everything were a little too kitch and tried hard to be a no wave New York band, then there was the duo of Daniel Bejar from new Pornographers and Destroyer and his girlfriend Sydney Vermont and although I consider him a good songwriter we were parched and missed their performance. I didn´t think he needs our support but the bar downstairs neither, the DJ was lousy and the ambient a little dislocated so we went to the Gallery cafe where another jazzy band was playing. Much better.

Film festival for the young

I got the information on this festival and I thought I could share it with you as it looks really cool. By the way don´t miss the next show on March 16 because Bradley is going to be presenting his new CD. If you like metal check out March 9th podcast as it features a heavy metal show with Magnus Rising as guests. Walz Draling is confirmed to play at the Railway on April 7th for a Van Music party, they will be at The Morning After Show on April 6th. Stay tune for more special guests and I will leave you with more info on this festival geared toward the youth. It is very important to have well educated kids to replace the clowns upstairs.

Vancouver actors and filmmakers are in the spotlight at the 11th Annual Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth, on April 9 – 16, 2010.

Budget rent a scam

The vehicle was returned in perfect condition except for a 1 centimetre chip on the windshield caused by a stone or rock. I had an estimate done by a professional windshield repairman called Too Nice Autoglass who saw the vehicle and said the regular charge for that repair was 50 dollars, Speedy and other companies charged between 50 and 80 dollars including labour

Robbed in Riga (previously Rock in Riga)

The songs exploded, the place was full. All 40 spectators were there. Mostly rocker kids and a couple of sinister fellows, which I think were pretty responsible for my after party treatment, but I generally don´t notice bad looking, bold, big guys. Not my type.

In Russian, cinema is called KINO and the venues kinoteatr. This country has a great history of directors and epic movies. I am no expert and I don´t want to research and write about all the Russian masters of cinema but your should consider exploring Russian cinema, from the Soviet times to the modern ones. For example, Serguei Einseistein, Andrey Tarkovski, Sergey Bondarchuk, Serguei Paradzhanov )who was Gerogian but super trippy, Jodorowski must have seen his films) and the new ones like Aleksandr Sokurov.
I haven´t explored much of films here …

Moscow´s underground and artistic movement is thriving. I did not expect less from a metropolis this size and with the amount of culture at their disposal.
However… It seems that people were shocked when they suddenly realized they could have all the comodities of the west (for a rice of course) and the majority of them (as always and everywhere in the world) went on to consume junk. I don´t know what is wrong with people? maybe it is because we are under the influence of some powerful drug or a …

Driving in the Russian capital is one of the most hazardous experiences a human being can live through. You might think that is dangerous because the road is full of corrupt cops, the pavement is in bad shape or because of the weather conditions, but no, the greatest danger of them all are the drivers, especially the fat male ones. Oh my fucking God! I cannot express the stupidity of these people in words! Because there is nothing more dangerous that the combination of recklessness with stupidity. I cannot stress …

So the communist icons and memorabilia are all over the city. Big parks that were used to revive the Russian glory of Communism. Parades and a strong paternalist government that takes care of people complete the picture. A statue of Karl Marx says Proletarians of the world unite, Lenin is all over the city and so on. But the reality is that capitalism has rooted in Russia like in any other place of the world. The dream is over if there was ever a dream. The social gaps are humongous …

A Night in the musuems

Museums in Moscow are one of the best things that happened to humanity. The variety is great so you can spend entire days looking at artwork. From early Egiptians to contemporary art, from the traditional and orthodox forms of art to the most bizarre and experimental. This is a city of a vast culture where you can breathe history. The choices are ample and to discover Russian art is a revelation, especially to enjoy the Futurists (Mikhail Larionov, Natalia Goncharova, and Kazimir Malevich inspired by poets like Mayakovski), and the …

The mayor of Moscow is a guy that goes by the name of Yury Luzhkov. He was first elected in 1996, reelected in 1999 and again in 2003. His name was heard before Vladimir Putin to become president but Boris Yeltsin crashed his presidential dreams.
A couple of days ago there was a gay demonstration that was banned by the mayor who has called this marches Satanic and degenerate. The OMON (Anti riot police) were there to beat up and arrest the defiant gays (All 30 of them). A couple of …
