Resurrecting punk… and goth rock.

Adjective are a post-punk outfit based in Vancouver, BC (Canada). An anonymous reviewer out there once asked if they “worship the dark lord” and wondered if they were “from Germany”.

I first met Ryan Riot at a call centre where we both worked as hotline operators, well, is not as bad as it sounds, maybe it is worse. Whatever way, we were enslaved for money. Next thing I know, I heard he has a band called Adjective. “They are good” a co-worker, who used to listen to the dirty talking going on in the lines, told me. I caught them playing LIVE! a couple of times and I thought their sound was really captivating. They recycle sounds from the Joy Division era, the kraut rock, the pain of the the Gothic and the attitude of punk. They called themselves post punk and don´t deny their love of Bauhaus. Another of their influences is Wire and curious enough after producer Adam Veenendaal gave a call to Wire´s bass founder player Graham Lewis he went to co-produce and gave them some back vocals. But I didn’t pay much attention until I listened to their EP at CiTR preparing The Morning After Show. Their sound is becoming more complex every time I listened to their music.

Their first EP I Am Sorry For Your Loss contained 7 songs and got to be number one at CiTR charts. Am Sorry For Your Loss features songs that were written over the course of Adjective’s existence I saw them LIVE! again and noticed their followers are rising in number. Now we are waiting for the full lenght LP and see how they evolve musically. Adjective is Ryan Riot vocals and guitars, Luna Tic guitar and vocals and Dustin John Bromley, Bass+Yelps. Adam Veenendaal – Live Drummer.

They have a couple of shows coming in March 2010. Check them out.
