cultureDef
They recently created a music video in partnership with Kodak for album track, Broken
cultureDef sounds “like a cross between Zeppelin/Bowie/NiN” according to Maple Music, but the band says it more like James Bond car-chase soundscores with lyrics about the 3 BIG L’s: life, love, & loss – usually in that order. Born out of the bands love for 70’s riff-rock and after-hours dirty breaks – think Zeppelin @ Shambhala – cultureDef’s sound has a broad appeal after the likes of Muse, Radiohead, and Arcade Fire.
FAN QUOTE (Really Feeling Something): Industrial rock? This definitely stands out from anything out there right now. Reminds me of Snapdragons, but heavier with an updated sound. This is probably the coolest rock song I’ve heard in a long time. Modern rock doesn’t have to sound like Staind or Nickelback. Big props for rocking out with a huge sound and tons of style. - MasMan from Cincinnati, Ohio
Following up their 2010 6-song EP *Chrysalis, the band is about to release of their first full length album Tin Tabernacles on May 01 2011. They recently created a music video in partnership with Kodak for album track, Broken. Other achievements include winning track of the day on Garageband.com for Really Feeling Something, placed 2nd in pop videos on Ourstage.com for music video Chrysalis, and toured with Swollen Members through BC. The band are savvy bloggers/social networkers and have 16,000+ fans on ReverbNation, 2200+ Facebook friends, over 400,000 profile views on MySpace, and are the founding members of www.canadasdirtydozen.com, a website dedicated to bringing attention to select Indie Canadian bands (launch date: 04/01/11)
FAN QUOTE (music video for Broken): Great job on the video. You and your crew should be very proud of the song, the video and the “making of” video. I have been encouraging people here to spread the word and we have a number of very well-networked folks and leaders on our social media team spreading the word. I hope that the song is a big success for you guys. It was a pleasure meeting you and I appreciate the professionalism and follow-through that you had on this project. Best regards and good luck. Steven J. Powell - Kodak
cultureDef has been working with Randy Bachman as a producer and mentor and are published through Bachman’s Write Songs – Will Travel. Bachman’s work with the band’s primary songwriter Zufo, has engrained the ‘rules of pop music’ into the writing and production formula the band follows. All styles of pop music benefit from time-tested arrangements and structures and Bachman’s track record of selling over 40 million records plus 13 songs on Billboard’s top 20, bears some cred with the band and the results can be heard in cultureDef’s songs.
FAN QUOTE (Calling All Fallen Angels): Funky groove hooked me right away guys. Vocals are very industrial sounding, but still easily accessible. I’m really enjoying this one guys. Keep it up. - threedfd from Centereach, New York
cultureDef has recently joined the ranks artists working with LiveVision Macro Management who has taken on the role of the band’s PR arm to promote the new album through shows and tours, and grow awareness through their well developed networks. LiveVision is working with Bachman’s publishing company to licence cultureDef’s music to film, video games, TV shows.
FAN QUOTE (Really Feeling Something): I really liked everything about this song. It starts out great by going right into the song. The vocals were nice and creepy which worked with song song really well. His vocals really remind me of Marilyn Manson. - adkoback from Minneapolis, Minnesota
The band came together in the wake of the dissolution of Zufo & the White Martians, a sci-fi power punk recording project that was the partnership of Zufo and Graham Ronne. Z&WM produced 40+ songs as a studio project that never performed live and came to an end at the end of 2007. After a year long hiatus, cultureDef was formed and the band began performing actively throughout British Columbia, focusing primarily in Vancouver. The band’s line up is: Zufo – lead vocals/guitar; Graham Ronne – guitar and vocals; JC Thompson – bass; and Mike Horntvedt – drums.
FAN QUOTE (Antigun): If the Cult started NOW. Eat your heart out Rob Zombie. I’m thinking “What if Trent Reznor wrote a song I liked?” BAM, here it is. The hook is infectious. - mrbenjo from Fredonia, New York
