Radio Interview with Nadia Von Hahn
Nadia Von Hahn presents her new Cd at Media Club on October 26
Nadia Von Hahn is a Vancouver singer song writer who is having a couple of shows in town in the middle of her Western Canadian tour in which she is presenting her CD Wait and see What happens. I interviewed Nadia on my radio show The Morning After Show at CiTR about her project. Listen to the podcast and some really cool music.
If you want to go to the concert VanMusic is giving away a pair of tickets to the Media club to see Nadia perform. To enter, tweet ‘NADIA RULES’ at Vanmusic or the Musebox. That simple! or leave a comment on this post and we will raffle all the entries.
Her first CD is called Wait and See What Happens.
Its my first release and it was officially release in October 5th. we are kind of in the end of the national tour of supporting the CD but I will head back to Vancouver for a big release show at the Media club on October 26th. said Nadia on the cellphone. I asked her if she plays with a full band.
We have been playing as a played as a four piece. I generally play keys and also guitar, because I write a lot of guitar. We have a guy that plays electric guitar, acoustic and ukulele and then we have a bass player and drums, so we are going to have a full band for the show at the Media Club but we have been touring as a three pice right now.
We are you right now?
I am sitting in a car in Lethbridge Alberta and we are going to make a mad escape to Calgary so we can get there before the rush hour. We will be playing at the Dickens pub with Sulphur and Tree lines. (That show already happened)
Are you putting a spectacle at the Media Club?
We like to keep things pretty interactive and we like to dress up specially in the show at the Media club its going to be a full on and we are going to have a bunch of my favourite artists.
You are playing also on Falconettis on November 7th right?
Yeah, I like Falconettis, its all renovated and they always have local talent playing LIVE.
I am starting to plan another tour to Toronto in the Spring getting ready for Canadian week. Planing another few video shoots one forthe winter and other for the Spring, one for Love Maker.
Now the official biography.
Originally from Quesnel, BC, Nadia von Hahn has gone from high school eccentric, to musical theater maniac, and finally, a powerhouse songstress, all in a few short years. After packing her bags, and cutting off her teenaged-dreadlocks, this small town girl graduated as class Valedictorian from The Canadian College of Performing Arts, in Victoria. There she received a scholarship from the Canadian Heritage Arts Society, for her work in classical voice, acting, and musical theater. A diverse performer, Nadia has taken her layered artistic background and infused her own songwriting with playful drama, wistful sincerity, and stubborn hope.
Described as “cinematic”, and “an ethereal powerhouse”, this young performer is poised at the beginning of an exciting career. From dramatic piano balladry to cheeky retro-pop, her distinct luxurious vocals and empathetic lyrics are a gracious hostess to a wide audience. Her relentlessly hummable melodies, and courageously sensitive sound have drawn comparisons to Sarah Slean, Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, and even Feist . Her unique fusion of pop, folk, and theatrical sensibilities have combined to create a style that is both entirely current, and completely timeless.
In 2008, Nadia started recording her debut album in Victoria BC, until one night she received a devastating e-mail. Someone had broken into the studio, and the computer was taken. There were no back-ups. Everything was gone, just when it was nearly finished. “More than anything I was in shock, thinking about the time and energy that was lost, special moments in the recordings you just can’t re-create. But, eventually, the experience taught me that starting over can be a good thing, and now I’m stronger for it. I’ll be releasing a very different album soon, and I pretty much feel ready to take on the world.”
Nadia recently finished production on her debut EP “Wait And See What Happens”, with producer Winston Hauschild (Hannah Georgas), at FaderMaster Studios in Vancouver, to be released October 5th, 2010.
