beekeeper, YOUNG LIARS & SSRIs @ The Biltmore

7 December 2012 No Comment

BEEKEEPER can’t lay low, because they won’t lay low. Much like a jack-in-the-box, this Vancouver based post-pop three-piece will be popping up every which where in 2013, surprising, delighting and perhaps making audiences feel a little scared but in a good way, starting with a headlining event Saturday February 9 at the Biltmore Cabaret. The evening will be a celebration of the release of their brand new EP. And what’s a celebration without good friends? Young Liars and SSRIs will be on board for what is sure to be a perfectly perplexing evening of Vancouver rock n roll.

Perryscope Concerts will be offering Super Fan pricing for this event. Tickets from December 6 to January 6 will be priced at the exceptionally reasonable $8 (+s/c) and ticket buyers will receive a complimentary download. “We wanted to offer an especially sweet treat for our fans who get tickets early: cheap tickets, a brand new beekeeper track, and a sampling of our amazing buddies who are also on the bill. This night has three of your favourite bands all on one bill; you just might not know one of them yet. Buy early, get a cheap ticket, and get to know your new favourites!” says beekeeper guitarist/vocalist Devon Lougheed.

BEEKEEPER have been favourably likened to everything from M.C. Escher’s chimerical staircases to convenience store snack food. Formed in Vancouver in 2010 by Devon Lougheed (guitar, vocals) and Luke Cyca (drums, vocals), the indie-pop power group’s resistance of categorization mirrors the band’s unapologetically ambitious style. With the 2011 addition of bassist and classically trained opera singer Brandi Sidoryk, beekeeper has become one of Vancouver’s most entertaining and unorthodox acts.

Young Liars are a band apart. What distinguishes them from bands that never make it beyond the garage is emotion, intensity and sound that can boil you up or simmer you down. The tightly wound grooves and bouncing beats of Young Liars is very much real, and the effect is too. They will get you moving whether you like it or not; it’s just great music.

SSRIs have been a band since summer 2006. Their home is Vancouver. They like to dance. Their first LP, “Effeminate Godzilla-Sized Windchimes” is available now.
