Robby Luv Dub

“It Just Begun” for me in about 1978 when some of my friends and I figured out that if we put a reostat on the motor power line of our old crappy Realistic direct drive turntables we could actually control the pitch of the records and achieve much more extended layering of our favorite Disco and Funk records. Up until that point the most we could do was short drag mixes using our fingers and drop mixes with the records or the pause button of our twin tape decks. Little did we know what lay ahead… I was about 14 yrs old at the time and me and my friends created a dance crew called “TNT” and we would travel all around western Canada performing and Djing and throwing block parties and such. The dance style back then was called “lockin” and it was pre-breakin’.

In 1978-79 we organized what I feel now was the first “Rave” style event, in the Edmonton Coliseum with an attendance of 5000 partying kids.We would perform dance routines and Dj there, mostly Funk and Disco records. Those were the days… As things progressed into the early 80′s I started breakin’ and playing the early electro and hip-hop tracks to the crowds that would show up our parties and club nights. It was in these years that I had the rare privilege of breakin’ on the same stage as the Rock Steady Crew, at the height of the breakin’ craze that had taken the world by storm. As the years went on, from the mid 80′s to mid 90′s I acquired full-time nightly DJ Residencies at numerous Underground Clubs,as that back then you play every nite/all nighte at the Club, I started playing and loving many different stlyes of music, from hip-hop and electro to new wave and punk to industrial,acid-house,new beat to house and techno.Robby Luv Dub

Through-out the 90′s on I have the pleasure of touring as a House/Techno DJ at numerous Raves, Parties and Club nights all over the Canada, The U.S., England, and Europe. Now that I am well into my third decade of DJing and sharing the soul, I am finding myself returning full circle. As I now find the culture and DJ’s within getting more finite in the style of music they play, I am returning to my roots of playing everything as one style, sharing all my experiences captured within all the different music that been the soundtrack to my life. May The Funk Be With U….
