Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival August 13 at Deer Lake Park
The Festival celebrates its 12th year with blues legend John Mayall and Canadian, Grammy winner K.D. Lang.
As Greater Vancouver’s best blues and roots concert, the annual Blues & Roots festival features renowned musicians from around the world. The festival takes place in Deer Lake, the gates open at 1PM music starts at 2 and lasts until 10.
John Mayall is a blues legend, born near Manchester in the UK, he has played with blues masters like John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker, Sonny Boy, Buddy Guy, Mavis Staples, Albert Collins among others. In the 60s he started the band John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, where a succession of great musicians defined their artistic roots under his leadership, including Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood and Mick Taylor.
The Western Canada native K.D. Lang launched her career more than 25 years ago, with a blend of alternative country-rock. She is a Grammy winner and one of the most recognized Canadians in the world. She will play with her new band, The Siss Boom Bang. She will be the headliner of the festival.
Other starts include Irish sensation Imelda May, her debut album Love Tattoo, has gone Triple Platinum in her hometown. She has shared a stage with Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, David Gilmour, Sharon Shannon, Jeff Beck, Shane Macgowan, Kirsty McCall, Van Morrison, Lionel Richie, Wanda Jackson, Paul Brady and Meatloaf.
Also playing Luke Doucet and The White Falcon, From New Brunswick Matt Andersen, The Secret Sisters from Alabama, Victoria’s Current Swell, Ben Rogers, and The Black Oats.
Food and beverages
There will be a variety of food and beverage options available for purchase. You may also bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverage. Please be advised that the festival site is licensed for alcohol consumption and anyone purchasing or consuming alcohol must be 19 years of age or older and will require a DAV (drinking age verification) wristband. These wristbands will be available at the identification tent by the alcohol service area on site. Two pieces of identification will be required to obtain this wristband; one primary piece of I.D. (driver’s license, passport) must include a photo.
Main Gate – open 1:00-9:00pm
West Gate – open 1:00-6:00pm. After 6pm, patrons will have to proceed east to the Main Gate.
There will be two (2) entrances to the venue, both feeding from Deer Lake Ave. The Main Gate is located on the northeast side of the venue, next to the Shadbolt Centre. This gate will be open to patrons holding tickets, those purchasing tickets subject to availability and those picking up tickets at Will Call. The West Gate is located on the northwest side of the venue and is restricted to ticket holders. Pedestrians may access the West Gate via the Burnaby Art Gallery parking lot ( up the hill to the west of Shadbolt Centre for the Arts).
If you have purchased your tickets by phone, please try to pick them up in advance at the Shadbolt Centre Box Office. You MUST produce the credit card used to purchase the ticket(s) and photo ID. If you don’t have a chance to pick up your tickets in advance – Will Call will be located at the Main Gate.
This is an outdoor venue – please be prepared for the weather as the festival will take place rain or shine.
