Trees Music in January
Music Trees Calendar
By John Pippus
Every month our friend and musician John Pippus puts this newsletter with the calendar for the Trees Music Series.
Here is the January Music Line-Up at Trees Organic Coffee House. 450 Granville St. Live music every Thursday and Friday at 8PM. As you can see, we have another “artist in residence” this month. Bernard Boulanger (see photo below) plays in a variety of styles and possesses a mordant wit that shows in his lyric writing. Mordant wit. I never thought I would put that in a sentence.

In other news….
Our 6th Annual Xmas Trees Drop-In raised over $100 for the Randy Ponzio Fund. Randy was one of Vancouver’s most promising singer/songwriters. He died in November leaving behind three young children. Not many people that I’ve met have touched so many with his positive, supportive energy. He was the same on stage as he was off stage. Full of light and love.
Congratulations to Nat Jay for scoring a major grant from FACTOR to help her get her first full-length CD produced. She’s playing at Trees in January and again in February, before heading down to Nashville.
Watch for Ev’s first EP to be finished in February (on the photo). Produced by Michael Dewey.
Our Thursday host, Ryan Fletcher, now has his Tuesday night radio show, Melodies In Mind, syndicated to nine university stations in Canada. Have a look at the site and click on “Guests A-Z” to see all the performers who have been on the show since it started. It’s a long list!
Ahem. Since its release in early September, my third album, “Wrapped Up In The Blues” has been played on radio stations in: Wales, England, Scotland, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Croatia, Italy, Australia (including Tasmania), USA, and here in Canada. Check it out on Amazon or iTunes.
If you like twangy country music with original lyrics and killer lead guitar playing, have a listen to Cory Hawthorne’s latest album. He’s playing at Trees on Jan. 26th too, if you want to see the man in action. This guy should be playing stadiums.
