She settled in Vancouver in 2005 and quickly established herself as a prominent and influential member of the local music scene. Karen has appeared at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival, the North Vancouver Sunny Sundays Concert Series, the Art in the Garden Festival, the Wild at Art Festival and headlined the Copper and Fire Festival.

Cold music. You can feel the sadness in the notes, traveling through a Tundra of emotions. This Canadian band based in Vancouver reminds me a lot of British bands from the 90s. But lets read some of the history of this band.
After a childhood spent on the land in the isolated Northwest Territories of Canada, the guitarist travelled to the metropolis of Toronto and became involved in projects ranging from jazz to metal to rap. After dealing with the roller-coaster frustrations of band politics, he went solo, and headed west to Vancouver to write his own music. He began performing using a looping device that would allow him to record, modify, loop and layer his acoustic guitar performance into a haunting moodiness evocative of a cold Northern landscape. With a rich, unique sound of his own that was already gaining an audience, he had no need for backing musicians.

So the time of the wonderful winter vacation has finally arrived, you would think if you are from the “right place”.
This winter vacation is not quite like that. You will enjoy stunning pictures of a slice of Chinese Inner Mongolia with wonderful music. In the dirty and deserted streets and standard instant buildings of the miraculous Chinese Socialism there are kids spending their well deserved winter holidays. It feels cold, gray and hopeless in every possible imaginable way.
Will the end of it bring new colors to the lives of the children?

Black Mountain has released two LPs, Black Mountain (2005) and In The Future (2008), and 2 EPs Druganaut (2004) and Bastards of Light (2008) on the Jagjaguwar label. A split single with Destroyer was released in Fall 2004 on Spirit of Orr. The “Stormy High” single was released in 2006 on Suicide Squeeze records. Also, in 2005, the band opened for Coldplay on their Twisted Logic Tour for three weeks, with their final opening in San Diego. Their self-titled album was chosen as one of Amazon.com’s Top 100 Editor’s Picks of 2005.

An exceptional band that recently recorded the follow up to their debut album in England with producer Jim Abbiss (Artic Monkeys). Last week I went out for a pitcher or two with the drummer Geordie to catch up on life, music and lots of laughs. The Mark Inside are a bunch of good cats that deserve all the success that will undoubtedly come their way. Mark my words these guys are going to be big.

The release of their 2006 album, The Sun and the Wind. Released independently with the help of some talented friends, it was received with critical acclaim. Chart Magazine called the record “delightfully engaging” while Exclaim proclaimed Burns “enigmatic and subtly inventive”.

At the Evolve Music Festival in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where Kimberleigh and Max met working at the children’s tent. They performed an interactive play with the kids based on a Dr.Seuss book (can you guess which one?!) which started a creative friendship that continued to blossom over the years. Even though Max lived in Fredericton, New Brunswick and Kimberleigh lived in Toronto, Ontario at the time, they managed to see each other a few times a year. Whenever the two of them were in the same city they would jam and make great music together and always knew that one day, if they ever lived in the same area code they would form a band.

Nobility brings Peace Rock To The US Australian band, New Nobility is releasing their debut album in April entitled “Blue Butterfly (Revolution)”. They have won numerous awards including the Music Aid Award for “Best Band 2007″ in the U.K. and the World Peace and Music Award in India. Their music is straight-forward rock with political lyrics. They sing about fighting for global justice and peace throughout the world. Their new album will be released on April 14 on the Pseudo Palm label and is available at Amazon.com. When Devin was kicked from that band, jordan followed him. Seeing the magic and talent inside him, Jordan decided to stick with Devin.

They began writing songs and spending much of their time with each others families and growing as friends and bandmates. Devin had a vast library of recorded material just waiting for a collaborative ear and Jordan jumped in with both feet. Writing songs nightly, but then spending months to craft them became the norm.
