The Vancouver International Fringe Festival is a huge event with tons of content, with over 700 productions it was impossible for me to check out everything. But I did check four plays that involved music… and dance…and acting…and visuals. Check out the photos, videos and review.

TWO GALLANTS LIVE IN VANCOUVER JUNE 26TH!

After a two-year break, the San Francisco guitar-drum duo TWO GALLANTS will begin touring again this summer across the North America and Europe. The well-needed time off came after six years of incessant touring and the release of three full-length studio albums and an acoustic EP. The band consists of childhood friends Tyson Vogel and Adam Stephens who met on their elementary school playground at the age of five. Despite an initial disagreement and ensuing scuffle over the supremacy of White Lion vs. Whitesnake, the two have been best friends ever since. They have been playing music together in some capacity since 1994, when their parents made the mistake of giving them both electric guitars for Christmas

Coming soon: Conversations with El Horto

László Hortobāgyi, a self described time traveler, is one of my favourite musicians. Away from rock and world music etiquettes which he despises, he goes beyond the realms of conventional music. He is a connoisseur of music, a collector of bizarre sounds. An auditive inventor of landscapes of imaginary ancient cultures. He is the equivalent in music of HP Lovecraft in literature, Bosch (El Bosco) in painting or HR Gigger in visual arts. Maybe a combination of Jodorowski and the Quay brothers in cinema with a touch of sci fi. He absorbs the millenarian knowledge of the old civilizations to extrapolate it to modern technology.

Vancouver International Jazz Festival

Vancouver’s signature festival and British Columbia’s biggest music showcase will animate the city for ten days June 25 – July 4. From noon to the wee small hours, a rich tapestry of jazz, blues, funk, Latin, fusion, electronica and world music will fill the air at venues big and small, indoor and outdoor across the city.

By taking the music to concert halls, parks, community spaces, clubs, public plazas and neighbourhood streets, the Jazz Festival will electrifies Vancouver with over 400 concerts and stirs the souls of more that 500,000 people each year.
