This Montreal band plays a hard reggae or is it a fast blues? I think is funk with Latin influences, or is it Quebecois influences? I can hear some Santana in their music and a lot of Ska. The first song of their latest album Take Your Ticket is really energetic. I am sure this Montreal band make audiences jump into the dance floor. Postcard is more of a Caribbean tune, check the song at the bottom of the post. I like when they sing in French like in the song I’m on a roll. Late Night is the perfect party song. The rest of the CD is closer to ska. The Hangers is an interesting band to listen and they are back in full force with Take Your Ticket

I was first musically introduced to Melissa Auf der Maur in 1994 when she became the bass player for the band Hole. I was 16 and very excited that she was in my favourite band not only because she was a young rocking bass player (she was only 22 when she joined) but because she was Canadian, hailing from the great city of Montreal.
Melissa’s music career started to take off in the early 90’s when she met Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) after a Pumpkins show in Montreal when she apologized for her friend who had heckled him and thrown a beer bottle at the band while on stage

I thought you might like to read little bit about this obscure Montreal band that plays a mix of dark rock with trippy themes and instrumental dreamy pieces. Their new CD is a compilation that goes from 1995 to 2005 of their best songs. Before my life is one of the most interesting pieces where they use loops for the vocals. Die Young reminded me of the new wave dark bands from the 90s. Then in reprive they even have poetry in Spanish. The CD is really eclectic, the voice of the vocalist is close to that of Swan’s Michael Gira and actually the duo that Ian and Caro do in some pieces reminded me also of this legendary band called The Swans. The lyrics are explicit, the instrumentation is Gothic in some themes with wild metalish vocals.

Is it safe to dance? You bet it is. For the first time in 2 decades Montreal’s New Wave Group Men Without Hats are going on tour in Canada. The group that brought us such iconic hits as The Safety Dance and Pop Goes The World will kick off the “Dance If You Want Tour” in Victoria on May 6th and then make their way through the Rockies for six not to be missed shows. More Canadian dates to be announced soon. The 1980’s group led by original member Ivan Doroschuk reformed in 2010 to perform at Rifflandia and then blew the socks off of their Club Deville SXSW showcase this past March to rave reviews.

Montreal technical death metallers Derelict are streaming a new track online as a preview of their next album.
“Perpetuation is about our current social system, which has humanity pitted against itself in endless competition and misery,” explains vocalist Eric Burnet. “We can choose to perpetuate this system until we burn ourselves out, or we can choose to do something more sustainable and perpetuate our species.”

umbers seem to confirm that Arcade Fire is the most popular Canadian INDIE band in the world, the most popular Canadian “artist” would probably be Celine Dion but we will not go into that swampy territory. Arcade Fire have been filling stadiums and playing all kind of festivals around the world. The band is based in Montreal, Quebec and was formed by a couple, Win Butler and Regine Chassagne who are now husband and wife. The earliest Montreal-based incarnation of the Arcade Fire began performing in the summer/fall of 2001, almost entirely in lofts and art galleries.
then some writers started comparisons with U2.

The unabashed, melodic, hard rock band, Versus the Nothing is a quintet that focuses on writing solid songs with tight, energetic performances. Their music combines heavy guitars, with powerful, melodic vocals that are propelled by driving rhythms and anthemic choruses. Clean, quiet moments swell into raging guitars, punctuated by short blasts of gang vocals as they rise into crashing sing-along choruses, accented by hopeful lyrics.
