Its Gotta Be Commercial Drive, If You Wanna Drive With Me…

I wasn’t at every single car free day event in Vancouver but I was on Commercial Dr and I think CR Avery summed it up well at his performance in front of High Life Records.

“It’s gotta be Commercial Drive, if you wanna drive with me…”

It was an East Van vibe and an East Van celebration, with all the sights, sounds and smells of Commercial Dr.  From barbecues to flags.   Brazil flags, Italian flags, Portugal flags even the flag of France.

Yes this year Car Free Day fell on father’s day and it also occurred during the World Cup which on Commercial Drive is as much a religion as Car Free Day itself.    But I gotta tell you the highlight for me and the encore cheering crowd was CR Avery belting out his brand of frenzied blues, accompanied by his harmonica and his great lyrical advice to ” just live.”

Chelsea Johnson another bluesy East Vaner  was invited on stage to share her soul and sing about the rain that pours.

The show was so good that a parade of drummers had no choice but to silence their drums as the crowd that gathered in front of High Life records demanded more from CR Avery.

A true entertainer who connects with every person in the crowd, CR Avery is a performer you do not want to miss.

CR Avery is not shy about telling people about local musicians that  are worth checking out and neither is VanMusic.  So if you see CR Avery’s name on a poster, go see him perform.   The electric blues man who lives inside of you and yearns to let loose will thank you and so will your dancing feet.
