Baby Brown Eyes, You stole my heart. I had to write a song…and I can’t believe what happened next.
Well summer is now over and what a summer I have had.
You can read about some of my adventures here. But during my summer I did one thing that I am very proud of, wrote a song for my girl. It was nothing much but words on a page when a good friend of mine Mark Ferriby from The Get Down, started to read it and thought that I had something there. We played around with it for a bit till we got the right melody and then adjusted the words to make everything flow.
It didn’t take long till we had the song down pat and started to play it for others. People really liked the song and always thought we were doing a music cover and asked who we were playing. I always thought that was cool, maybe because I wrote the song and enjoyed friends liking it or because Mark is very talented and made my words into music, however I feel that they both play perfect roles and both complement each harmoniously.
That is where it all started. It got in my head since I wrote this for my girl and it was our anniversary coming up, that we should record it and give it to her for our 1 year. Mark and I talked to his roommate Anand, who just so happens to have a recording studio in his room. We asked if he wanted to help record this song, well being a fan of the song he was all over it.
The day came when we were all able to spend some time to put my first piece together. Mark was first and recorded the guitar for the song. Now it was my time to record, I was nervous because lets face it, I have no singing training whatsoever except in the shower.
I am really glad that Anand likes doing what he does because we had to re-record a few times, the singing is not the best but far better then I have ever heard before. Thanks for making me sound so good Anand!
The vocal part came and went and Anand wanted to put more of a band in the song. First he plays and records the bass, then he pulls out a xylophone and plays it to compliment the drum beat and now he is ready to put that final touch to the song. From under his bed he pulls out a rectangle box and opens it to reveal a shiny gold saxophone! Ah yes, time for the solo near the end of the song with the instrument that Anand has best become known for.
Well I could not have asked for more, we had Mark come back for the back up vocals and there we had it, a work of art. It took nearly 15 hours to complete and I walked away a happy man, now lets get it ready for my girlfriend.
I talked to a very good friend of mine who owns and runs Ink Ocho Studios with his wife into doing the CD art work. He happily agreed and got right to work. Now was the time to see if all the hard work pays off.
So the night came when I was to give this song to my girl Taryn. The whole song is about how we met and things that we went threw during that time together, she loved it and almost fell over when she heard how the song ended!
Here is the link to the song and I hope that you all enjoy it, I know we sure do. I know that you will all enjoy the sax.
