OLIVER SWAIN
April Solo Tour and Kirtan Tour with Sufey Chen

(Band Photo)A month on the road lies ahead for Victoria artist Oliver Swain. The celebrated singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is touring BC twice over in under 30 days, first with internationally acclaimed Yogi Sufey Chen in a truly unique KIRTAN prayerformance duo. Immediately after, he’ll start the journey again solo throughout the province supporting his latest release Never More Together, released a year ago and earning the songwriter a nomination for Roots Solo Artist of the Year at BreakOut West 2016. The two tours couldn’t be more different, but Swain has never been one to stick to a single artful pursuit, having just finished composing, performing and singing in the Kaleidoscope Theatre production of The Little Prince in Victoria. Keep your eyes peeled for Oliver Swain on the highways of BC this April, solo tour dates listed after kirtan tour.

The KIRTAN tour with Sufey Chen and Oliver Swain is an especially unique celebration of devotional music and liberated movement. It weaves traditional kirtan classics with enchanting original harmonies in an exciting evening of interactive ceremony, ritual and deep healing, at Yoga studios throughout the province. This tour features a two-hour interactive experience of tribal connection and personal liberation, centered around the healing powers of intuitive dance and song.

Celebrated for her playful spirit and joyful demeanour, Sufey Chen is a tiny firecracker that leads song circles, shamanic retreats and yoga teacher trainings in Bali, Costa Rica, Hawaii, China and Canada. Her holistic work as a priestess, healer and yogini has healed the bodies and opened the hearts of thousands across the world. She says about the kirtan tour,“Music, sung with the pure utter devotion of a bhakti yogi, is the quickest way to realizing our ultimate Oneness: the connected joy that lives within each and every one of us. The mantras that we chant tune us into each other, as we invoke the power of All who have chanted before us. These vibrations cleanse us, purify us, and bring us into deep ecstatic bliss – it’s the best kind of soul medicine that exists!”

swainOliver Swain got his start performing and writing with many of the US and Canada’s most loved roots bands including The Bills, The Duhks, Outlaw Social and The Red Stick Ramblers. He’s a two time Prairie Music Award (WCMA) winner, Juno nominee, BreakOut West nominee and has a few Monday Magazine and Times Colonist Music Awards under his belt. In 2011 he released In A Big Machine, hailed as “Absolutely mesmerizing” and “one of the best albums of 2011, regardless of genre”, and in 2015 he released Never More Together, referred to as “genre defying at it’s best…beautifully played and performed, each song a mini masterpiece,” by Fatea Magazine. Both produced by award winning multi-instrumentalist Adrian Dolan, the newer collection of music strays toward the whimsical, spiritual, and socially conscious sides of what Oliver calls“chamber folk odyssey”, while In A Big Machine pays more slightly more homage to the tradition of folk music. Oliver has toured across Canada and the US countless times, including Folk Alliance International, Winnipeg/Calgary/Edmonton/Vancouver Folk Festivals, Stan Rogers Folk Festival, Summerfolk, Rifflandia, Victoria Jazz Festival, Shorefest, and countless others. Between his own shows and tours, Oliver also runs the Victoria Django Festival each February in his home city, tours as one half the Leonard Cohen tribute duo project Tower of Song, and plays bass and sings harmonies with his rock band side project, Fans & Motor Supply Co..
